Day Trips from Your Ocho Rios Villa
Despite the fact that Ocho Rios is rich in culture and activities, sometimes it’s worth it to visit somewhere far from your home base. It might be tempting to stay in your beautiful rented villa and relax every day on the beach, but there are a variety of places hours away the coastline that are worth visiting. Enhance your Jamaican vacation with some daytrips that aren’t too far from Ocho Rios. Here are a few of our favorites:
- For those interested in Bob Marley and Rastafarian culture in general, there are many places to visit. For an all-inclusive adventure, give the Reggae and Culture Tour a shot. Some of the tour highlights include a visit to Nine Mile in St. Anne Parish. You can learn all about his life, visit his birthplace, and his final resting place.
- Port Maria is a historically fascinating place to check out on a day trip. Located only a half an hour away, this port city is known for being the location of St. Mary Parish Church and a number of rebellions and revolts. Port Maria’s off shore is perfect for snorkeling and diving.
- West of Ocho Rios is Montego Bay. Visit for a truly Jamaican experience with untidy, chaotic local charm. The local markets are always fun to browse through. Bargain with shopkeepers and pick up some duty-free treasures to take home with you. Bird lovers can check out the nearby Bird Sanctuary.
Kingston, Jamaica offers a variety of activities. Fifty miles away from Ocho Rios, Kingston is home to the longest mountain range on the island. It also boasts the largest art gallery in Jamaica. Coffee lovers might want to check out the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory. They offer tours of Jamaica’s largest coffee facility guided by knowledgeable operators
