There are three international airports in Jamaica: Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, and Ian Fleming International Airport in Ocho Rios.
Montego Bay airport in Jamaica is Sangster International or MBJ, considered the gateway to the Caribbean, is located in Montego Bay, the main entry point for most tourists. It is the recommended entry point if you’re traveling to Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Negril.
This airport is well-established, serving 9 million people yearly, which means all the amenities are well cared for, so you don’t have to worry about anything. Taxis, hotel shuttles, and car rental companies are available upon arrival to assist you to your destination.
And if you’re flying in on a private jet, it’s all good because Sangster International Airport has a private jet area with Immigration and Customs available.
Norman Manley International Airport is located in Kingston, which is the capital and largest city in Jamaica. A diverse hub, it is a good option if you’re visiting the capital city, Port Antonio, or the Blue Mountains.
However, it isn’t a common choice for tourists. Mainly, the airport is used by locals or business travelers. But if you do arrive at this airport for business or pleasure, ground transportation (car rentals, taxis, tour operators) is available to take you straight to downtown or business centers.
Ian Fleming International Airport is Jamaica’s newest airport. Famously named after the British author of the James Bond novels, it is located in Boscobel, close to Ocho Rios, in northern Jamaica.
Located only 10 km from the city of Ocho Rios, getting to your beachfront hotel and resort district is as simple as hopping into a taxi or renting a car. Although convenient, most people still choose to arrive at Sangster International Airport before heading to Ocho Rios.
Despite being an international airport, very little is known about this single-terminal facility. And you will not find many international flights using it as an arrival point of entry. But if you do, it is a great option.
People always ask if there are domestic airports in Jamaica. There are. Taking your time and driving to get to your destination is good. However, some people prefer to cut down their travel time to see as much as possible, in which case you can use domestic airplanes and helicopter facilities.
Tinson Pen Airport is located in the heart of Kingston, and it is the largest domestic airport. This airport is the link between Montego Bay and Kingston and is mainly used by business travelers.
Negril Aerodrome is located in Negril. It is one of the best airports in Jamaica for tourists but for that reason, it does not offer night flights.
Ken Jones Aerodrome is located in Port Antonio. As a well-established airport, just like Negril Airport, it serves mainly tourists. It isn’t as busy as Negril Aerodrome, which makes it a great landing point.
The airports listed above are the main ones, but once you’re in Jamaica, there are some great airstrips to check out. If you book chartered or helicopter services, you may land at one of these locations.
Kirkvine Airstrip Community
Located 65 km from the Sangster Airport, it is an airstrip serving Mandeville City. If you’re driving by, definitely check it out, as it’s a unique little spot.
Located 20 km from Kingston, it is an airstrip that serves the town of Bog Walk in St. Catherine Parish in Jamaica.
The airstrip serves Manchioneal, a Caribbean Coastal Town, and the exciting aspect of this airstrip is that the departure is over the water, so the views are stunning.
Now that you’re an expert on the available airports, it’s time to book your trip.
Ocho Rios has transformed from a quiet fishing port to a bustling tourist destination with everything you need. From cruise boats to sandy beaches and calm waters, there is something for everyone.
