A Laidback Day at Discovery Bay

A mere 35-minute drive from Ocho Rios, Discovery Bay makes your day tour quite laidback and relaxing. But there’s also some adventure if you want a more thrilling trip. On weekday mornings, spot some derby carts zipping down hillsides to transport goods. If your holiday coincides with the annual Pushcart Derby, you’ll enjoy a more exciting derby run.

Spend the day sipping cocktails on cozy lounges by the seaside. Check out Members’ Beach, Peach Beach, or Puerto Seco Beach for a relaxing day on the shores. Take the glass bottom boat and spy on the colorful fishes and corals below. Or swim alongside them as you snorkel or scuba dive. You can also go parasailing, kayaking, or engage in other water sports. Want to try deep-sea exploration? Sign up for the Jamaican Submarine Tour.

To fill your hungry tummies, enjoy a meal of the freshest seafood from Fisherman’s Beach or have a taste of the best jerk chicken at the Ultimate Jerk Centre. Discovery Bay has among the best lobsters in Jamaica so do order some while you’re there.

For a bit of adventure, explore the underground network of caves believed to have been used by the infamous pirates of the Caribbean. During the colonial period, these same caves were used by slaves to escape from cruel masters. Above the caves is Columbus Park, an open-air museum that displays artifacts and gives you a peek at the fascinating history of this old mining town. While kids often get bored in museum trips, the Columbus Park will certainly delight them with its waterslides.

Before you head back to your villa, take a quick drive up Kaiser Hill. This popular lookout point gives you a panoramic view of Discovery Bay. If you happen to be there on a clear day, you might even get to see Cuba from afar.

Discovery Bay is really D Bay to go for a laidback afternoon with a touch of adventure.
