Ocho Rios: Eight Rivers, Countless Adventures

Known locally as Ochi, this town on the north coast of Jamaica showcases an exciting blend of beautiful scenery, local tradition, and modern luxury. It offers a great mix of activities and sights to see for people of all ages.

Take your family with you and spend a whole day at Dolphin Cove to get up close with playful dolphins or snorkel safely with stingrays. You can also take a 90-minute adventure drifting on tubes along the gentle rapids of the White River Valley. For a relaxing time amidst flora and fauna, stroll around Shaw Park Gardens or Turtle River Falls and Gardens.

If you’re up for some more adventure, get some thrill ziplining and bobsledding at the Mystic Mountain Rainforest or swinging on ropes and jumping into the cool waters of the Irie Blue Hole. Try the challenging trek to see the stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lake in the limestone caves of Green Grotto. And of course, you shouldn’t miss swimming in the cool lagoons of Dunn’s River Falls, one of the most famous attractions in Jamaica.

For some culture and history, visit Port Maria. It houses several national heritage sites including Fort Haldane and Port Maria Courthouse.

Take the Nine Mile Tour to pay homage to music legend Bob Marley and discover the place he grew up in. Discover the life of English playwright, actor, and composer Noel Coward and get an astounding view of the Jamaican coast at Firefly.

Ocho Rios is also popular for its vast shopping areas that carry luxury brands, charming souvenirs, and unique mementos. For souvenirs and interesting items, head to Ocho Rios Craft Market.

Or you can take a scenic drive down Fern Gully and buy them from roadside stalls that sell wooden handicrafts by local craftsmen.

Your trip to Ochi wouldn’t be complete without a taste of authentic Jamaican cuisine. Enjoy some spicy jerky at Scotchies Jerk Centre, Bizot Bar, and Restaurant, or Lyming At Walkerswood rest stop.

Have a unique farm-to-table experience at Stush in the Bush, or feast on both local and international cuisine at the Cardiff Hall Restaurant.
